Dunaújvaros

At kilometer 1,582 of the Danube flowing from the Black Forest to the Black Sea lies Dunaújváros one of the youngest Hungarian cities. Today’s city was erected at the site of the former military fort Intercisa of the Emperor Trajan. Geographically located in the centre of Hungary in the southern part of Fejér, approximately 70 km from Budapest and 90 km from Lake Balaton. Due to its central location its connection to the country’s traffic network is good, because it can be accessed at its north and south ends by the main traffic road No. 6.

The railroad and the Danube play a significant role especially when it comes to the transportation of goods. For visitors coming in on small airplanes there is a sport airfield available that is used on a regular basis. In the still young town you can find many different styles. A significant part of the buildings in the inner city still has the characteristic style of what is known as “Socialist Realism“ . The largest employer is the “Donau-Eisenwerk” (Danube ironworks) , one of the largest steel mills in Hungary.
