Neustadt/Westerwald

Neustadt/Westerwald is in the north east of the Rhineland Palatinate close to the border triangle Rhineland-Palatinate, Hesse and North Rhine-Westphalia and also nearby is the highest elevation of the Westerwald, the Fuchskaute (656 m above sea level). Politically, the community belongs to the association municipality of Rennerod. Neustadt/Westerwald was first documented in 1384 and already in 1436 a chapel was built in Neustadt. The chapel no longer existed already around 1611.

The Hohe Westerwald, which also includes the Neustadt/Westerwald area, is known for its healthy nature and offers its guests sporting and leisure activities, winter sports, cultural sightseeing and entertainment. The vacation region “Hoher Westerwald” is considered an ideal hiking region in an amazing mountain area with the nature reserves Wacholderheide and Holzbachschlucht. A popular hiking trail is the Rothaarsteig which leads to the nearby Fuchskaute and also the 235 km long hiking trai WesterwaldSteig (from Herborn to Bad Hönningen) through one of the prettiest low mountain ranges in Germany and just along the outskirts of Neustadt/Westerwald.
