Neustadt (Wied)

Neustadt (Wied) is located at the foot of the Westerwald (forest) in a region which is colloquially often called the "RhenishWesterwald" and comprises 56 villages stretched along the forest. In former times most people here worked in agriculture and in ore and basalt mining. Themonastary and the castle ruin Ehrenstein are 2 km away.

In line with the theme “Bi et fröher war” (how it was in the past) thehomeland museum shows how people really lived and worked in Neustadt in the past. In addition to a kitchen equipped true to the times, many “treasures” can be discovered from days of old.

In the nature park Rhein-Westerwald the scenic landscape is characterized by the Wied, a romantic arm of the Rhine. The beautiful Wiedtal(valley) invites visitors to have active vacations like hiking and biking. The highest point in town is the Volcano dome “Bertenauer Kopf“ (351.50 above sea level). At the top one has a view up to the Westerwald and of the Siebengebirge (mountain range) in the Rhine valley. The easily accessible hiking trail network with the Westerwaldsteig makes it possible to get to know many towns in the community as well as the diverse countryside of the Westerwald and the Wiedtal. The hotel and restaurant industry in various towns of the community offer specialities from the “Rhineland” and “Westerwald” regions.
